Gasa Gasa Grand Opening

Gasa Gasa Grand Opening July 20, 2013 at 7 p.m. – 4920 Freret Street

(New Orleans, Louisiana) – Come join us Saturday July 20 at the hottest new club on Freret, Gasa Gasa. Located at 4920 Freret Street, Gasa Gasa features state-of-the-art acoustics, image projection mapping and specialty cocktails. Special musical guest Honorable South will be performing with the doors opening at 7 p.m. Come see how Gasa Gasa is raising the bar for New Orleans nightlife!

Gasa Gasa’s managers, Mike Twillmann and Micah Burns began their work with Breezy’s, a coffee shop turned underground music venue in the Freret neighborhood. Through word-of-mouth shows and publicity, Twillmann and Burns earned the capital they needed to start a legitimate venue.

“We want to be a conglomeration of all things art for everyone,” Burns said. “A co-op of epic proportions.”

The name Gasa Gasa comes from, Gavin MacArthur, the principal contractor for the site.  MacArthur suffered a stroke on surfing trip and, while in rehabilitation, his doctor told him that he was “Gasa Gasa” – a Japanese phrase for “all over the place” or “doing too much at once”.  MacArthur recovered and returned to finish the build out, and the venue at 4920 Freret St. received a fitting name.

“The name was born out of sheer chaos, kind of like art itself,” MacArthur said.

At Gasa Gasa, artwork lines every wall, with murals covering the external and bathroom walls and fully customizable, 3D image projection mapping system hugging the stage and reacting in real time to live music.  With the help of in-house audio engineer Michael Seaman, the room has been fine-tuned to provide one of the best acoustic spaces in all of New Orleans.

Instead of the usual soft-opening then grand-opening approach, Gasa Gasa has done a series of parties, shows, and art exhibitions advertised only through word-of-mouth buzz to show the space off and garner valuable feedback. Now we’re ready to showcase our one-of-a-kind venue to outside world. Join us Saturday July 20th starting at 7 p.m. and be part of the new wave of nightlife Gasa Gasa is bringing to the Freret Street Neighborhood and New Orleans!
